Through an approach that integrates artistic interventions with local community participation, the project aims to transform Trevinano into a multidisciplinary artistic laboratory, where art and culture become tools for social, economic and cultural regeneration, contributing to the village’s revival and creating a sustainable future for the local community.
The project “Contemporary Art as a Driver of Urban Regeneration”, curated by Davide Sarchioni, develops an open-air Public Art Itinerary featuring various site-specific artistic measures and permanent works of art. This initiative is conceived as an engaging and experiential narrative of a new story, punctuated by various works of art located along a heterogeneous path that highlights and invites exploration of the village’s symbolic and pivotal places. These landmarks are tied to Trevinano’s historical past, the daily lives of its residents and their respective functions, whilst taking the natural and scenic context in which the village is immersed into account.
Reflecting on the relationships between art, architecture, landscape and cultural contexts, artists are invited to design measures and artwork through interaction with the local community and other stakeholders (architects, artisans and various professionals). This process involves a continuous study of the territory and co-designing through meetings and site visits, fostering productive dialogue and enriching exchanges.
As part of the artistic regeneration, a school with a three-year acting course, conceived and developed by Alessandro Serra, will focus on theatre pedagogy and learning as a means of comparing practices, perspectives and self-questioning. The project is envisioned as an atelier, a workshop deeply rooted in theatrical creation, blending tradition with the artisanal needs of actors.
Artist residencies dedicated to performing arts, coordinated by Teatro Boni, will bring leading national artists to the territory to engage with the local community and attract young actors, musicians and dancers to participate in training sessions.
A theatre workshop on fairy tales has already involved children and grandparents, fostering intergenerational connection. Through storytelling and theatre, memories and childhood tales of grandparents a bridge with the younger generation is created.
A program of cultural initiatives held in the village’s narrow streets, small squares and green areas will offer residents opportunities to enjoy cinema, music and theatre in a renewed setting.
The dialogue between artists and residents will contribute to cultural regeneration by actively involving citizens. Creative workshops and educational activities will be organized to promote community participation, inviting residents of all ages to reflect on their cultural identity and the territory’s potential, fostering a link between tradition and innovation.
